Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of those places I’ve always wanted to visit, not only because of its historical and economic importance and unique architecture, but most importantly, the stories I’ve heard that give it an almost mythical status in my mind. Today I can say that, everything I heard was not only true but the real Hong Kong surpassed my wildest imagination.

Trams of HK City

Many trams are iconic to their cities. The beautiful wooden cars climbing the steep slopes of Lisbon and San Francisco, the charming red trams at Taksim in Istanbul, or the frozen blue carts of Stockholm, Sweden each tell a unique story, and give you a flips to that city’s history. But no other tram embodies a place in my memory more than the famous double-decker trams of Hong Kong.

Man Mo Temple

Man Mo is a temple located on Hollywood Road in Hong Kong dedicated to the worship of the god of Literature — Man Tai, and the god of Military — Mo Tai. The two deities were popularly patronized by scholars and students seeking progress in their study or ranking in the civil examinations in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Tai Po

The abundance of greenery, the openness of space, and the relaxed, welcoming demeanor of the locals made Tai Po feel much more like home, unlike busy and almost sci-fi-esque Hong Kong, with its towering skyscrapers and shadowed streets. It’s nice to see that, given the choice, even halfway across the world, people yearn for peace and harmony in their lives. A comforting reminder that, no matter where you go, people are just people.

Kowloon

The Kowloon Walled City was a place many have heard about, its reputation cemented as an infamous enclave of lawlessness and overcrowded living conditions. It was like something out of a sci-fi novel—towers of unbelievably densely packed buildings, with families crammed into tiny, labyrinthine spaces, lit only by dim fluorescent bulbs. It was a living relic of an era when regulations didn’t apply and communities created their own rules for survival. I knew then that visiting this site would be a priority.
